Gender Socialization
-Boundless
This article discusses how different genders are expected to socialize
with each other and how boys and girls are raised to act a certain way from
birth. Gender socialization
is part of the process of instructing and teaching males and females to do
normal behaviors, have certain values, and beliefs of their specific gender. In
society boys are projected to be disorganized and loud, meanwhile girls are
expected to be clean and quiet. This follows the different genders through the
stages of their lives and especially into college, this is the first time kids
are living essentially on their own. Living on their own for the first time the
system they were raised to be in will come out in different ways. The boys in
the college dorms may be a bit messier and louder around people. They also
might not do laundry as often or be as organized with their studies. On the
other hand, girls may keep their rooms neater and may not be as obnoxious in
the dorms. Girls also may be more organized and focused on their studies.
